Chapter 8

Will

I stared at the leftovers on the counter before popping them in the microwave. I had no desire to eat. My appetite had disappeared by Tuesday when I realized that, yes, Ian really was avoiding me.

But starving myself wouldn’t accomplish anything, and besides, what did I expect? I’d basically kicked him out of my house Friday night with barely an explanation. I leaned against the counter and stared out the window above the sink. I should have forced Ian to talk to me this week, should have at the very least told him that Tristan was my best friend and that’s why I’d ditched Ian. But knowing Ian’s new desire to keep his personal life separate from work – and I couldn’t blame him for that – it didn’t feel right to corner him in his office or some quiet part of the school and try to explain.

You could have texted or called, asshole.

I studied the bird sitting on the fence, its bright yellow feathers catching the light of the evening sun. Yeah, I could have. Almost did. Until I realized that there wasn’t any point beyond trying to make myself feel better for being an asshole. The look of regret and shame on Ian’s face after we’d both cum, kept inserting itself into my brain at random times, and each time it brought on my own feelings of regret and shame. Ian was confused, and I’d used that confusion for my own selfish reasons.

The microwave beeped, and I popped the leftovers out and stirred them before sticking them back in for another few minutes. My decision to forget what happened between Ian and me wasn’t going very smoothly. Even though I’d spent the entire week basically hiding out in my classroom. Hell, I’d only gone to the staff room when I was absolutely sure Ian was teaching a class.

Ian and I couldn’t avoid each other forever, not in a school as small as ours, but right now, everything was still too raw and –

The doorbell rang and I glanced at the clock over the stove before leaving the kitchen. I slowed to a stop as I walked down the hallway, staring in surprise at Ian through the window in the door. For a moment, I considered just turning around and walking away, but then Ian said, “Open the door, Will.”

I forced my wooden legs to carry me forward, opening the door and stepping back when Ian barged in past me. He slammed the door shut and glared at me. “That was a really shitty thing for you to do.”

“Look, I know, okay?” I said. “But Tristan is my best friend and he needed me to pick him up. I shouldn’t have -”

Ian made a sound of exasperation. “Oh, for fuck’s sake, Will, I’m not talking about Friday night. Don’t play dumb.”

I stared cautiously at him. Ian was one of the most level-headed and easy-going teachers at the school, and Angry Ian wasn’t someone I’d seen before. I wondered what kind of guy it made me, to want to take Angry Ian to my bed and make him suck my dick.
